Sello Moloko

Executive Chairman

Sello is co-founder and Executive Chairman of Thesele Group and has a wealth of business experience gained over more than 25 years in financial services (investment management and employee benefits). Outside of Thesele, Sello holds positions as independent non-executive Chairman of both Sibanye-Stillwater Limited and General Reinsurance Africa. He also currently serves on the boards of Prudential Investment Managers, Telkom and JSE listed Stor-Age REIT Limited.

Sello has previously served on the boards of several listed companies including Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited (as non-executive Chairman), Gold Fields Limited, Makalani Holdings Limited, Acucap Properties Limited and Sycom Property Fund.

He is the former CEO of Old Mutual Asset Managers and former deputy CEO of Capital Alliance Asset Managers, firms he initially joined as a senior portfolio manager and an analyst, respectively.

Sello is a trustee of the UCT Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation where he also chairs the Investment Committee. He was the national president of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) from 2005 to 2007.  In 2003, ABSIP presented him with the Financial Services Pioneer Award in recognition of his achievements in the field of investment management.

Thabo Leeuw

Chief Executive Officer

Thabo is co-founder and chief executive officer of Thesele Group and has more than 27 years experience in the food and beverages, petrochemicals, ICT and financial services sectors. He is former global director of Cazenove PLC and director of corporate finance in Cazenove’s South African branch.  

Thabo is the non-executive Chairman of ICAS South Africa and non-executive director of Hulamin Limited, Rhodes Foods Limited, Elite Truck Hire and AEP Energy Africa. He also serves on the Strategic Investment Committee of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund.

He was part of the team that drove the drafting of the Financial Sector Charter. Thabo was also secretary general of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) from 2003 to 2005. In 2003, he was a Financial Mail rated analyst in the transport and healthcare sectors.

Sibusiso Mthembu

Executive Director

Sibusiso joined Thesele as a senior executive in 2009 and now holds the position of executive director. His career spans more than 15 years, during which time he has held various roles in asset management and investment banking with local and international banks, including Real Africa Durolink and HSBC.  

Sibusiso is a co-founder of Sansara Group, a corporate advisory firm that merged with the Macquarie advisory team. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the boards of Prudential Portfolio Managers South Africa and Probe Corporation.

Oliver Petersen

Senior Executive

Oliver joined Thesele in November 2015 and is currently an exeuctive director. He started his now 15-year career by serving articles at PwC and has since held various associate and executive roles in investment, corporate finance and private equity.

In addition to originating and taking a lead role in Thesele’s investment into Elite Truck Hire, Probe Corporation and DG Capital, he also represents Thesele on the boards of these portfolio companies. Oliver also represents Thesele on the board of AEP Energy Africa Limited.

Prior to joining Thesele, Oliver was a senior deal executive at CapitalWorks Private Equity, CEO at Brait SA’s Alternative Equity Partners and COO at Circle Capital Ventures. He has held various board positions and is a former secretary general of the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP). Oliver is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Clifford Raphiri

Thesele Board Member

Clifford recently joined Thesele as one of our board members.  He is also currently the executive director at Phetogo as well as a non-executive chairman at Adcock Ingram Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

Clifford is an operational executive with over 30 years of experience in business. He was the manufacturing and technical director of SAB (Pty) Ltd for seven years and member of the board at SAB for 10 years. 

Clifford is a mechanical engineer by training and has also held a number of senior leadership positions in manufacturing, industrial, engineering and consulting sectors.

Evantha Moodley

Chief Financial Officer

Evantha joined Thesele in August 2018 as  the chief financial officer. Evantha started  her career private equity career at Brait in  2005 after completion of her articles of  clerkship with PwC. She went on to head-up  the business support and finance function at  Ethos Mezzanine Partners. Evantha is a  member of the South African Institute of  Chartered Accountants.

Tinyiko Ngwenya

Investment Associate

Prior to joining Thesele, Tinyiko served as a highly regarded Economist at Old Mutual Investment Group. She was responsible for the detailed analysis of macro-economic data and key economic policy issues affecting industries in which Old Mutual invests.

She completed her articles at Old Mutual where she spent 6 months in London in Group Strategy & Corporate Finance.

Tinyiko is currently the Executive for Young Professionals at the Association of Black Securities (ABSIP) where she helped launched the Young Professionals Chapter in 2016.

Jhana Weltman

Senior Associate

Jhana has 14 years’ experience in investment banking. Prior to joining Thesele, Jhana was a Senior Associate in the leveraged finance team at Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking for 7 years. Her role involved implementing and originating transactions related to acquisition finance, leveraged finance and other structured  debt transactions including shared backed transactions and preference share funding.

Laurisha Lachman

Executive Assistant

Upon joining the team at Thesele, Laurisha Lachman took on the role of Executive Assistant to the executive team, including the CEO and executive Chairman,  this was an easy enough task given her more than 15 years experience in similar postions across various sectors including investment banking, hospitality and property management.  Her role  is to make sure that the team is well supported, liaising with external stakeholders on their behalf and enabling them to optimise their time as they focus on the core business of the organisation.

Zola Geya

Office Manager

Zola and has vast experience in clerical support, client liaison, recruitment, inventory control, travel arrangements and events management. She recently joined Thesele Group as the Office Manager and her role is to ensure the smooth running of an office on a day-to-day basis, office operations and procedures are organized, correspondences are controlled, filing systems are designed, supply requisitions are reviewed and approved and that clerical functions are properly assigned and monitored.
